Image converter
A small desktop app: drop images in, pick a format and a compression level, and it shows the weight saved.

Context
I prepare a lot of images: for the sites I deliver, for my Etsy listings, for my KDP books. Converting and slimming a batch of photos meant opening heavy software or an online tool that uploads the files.
The challenge
An offline tool, simple to launch, that never touches the originals and says clearly what it saved.
What I did
- A tkinter window you drop files onto (or click to browse).
- Conversion to JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO and PDF.
- Five compression levels, tuned per format (JPEG/WebP quality, PNG palette, Deflate for TIFF).
- Optional background removal with rembg, running locally. If the chosen format can’t store transparency, the file comes out as PNG.
- For each file: new size and space saved, then the total at the bottom of the window. English or French interface.
- pytest tests on the conversion core, and a project managed with uv.
Outcome
In the screenshot, six photos converted to WebP at medium compression: 5.2 MB become 2.7 MB, 48.7% less.
